Still Life (2012)

“One of my favourite still life artists is Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964). He was once asked why he always used the same objects for his work. "They are my usual things... always the same," Morandi answered. "Why should I change them?" It was said about Morandi that his lifetime of painting still lifes proclaims his individual striving to seize reality through the familiar.

Something is so familiar that you need help to be able to see it, to look at the overlooked, to appreciate the "unimportant" parts of our lives. What I find interesting is that some objects are so vital to our existence that without them we could not easily survive, but yet we hardly ever notice them.“
